Since the inception of STARplex in 2000, the STARplex Theatre has grown extraordinarily into the Hewitson Theatre – STARplex, as you see it today. In 2007 a new state-of-the-art sound system (from EAW and Powersoft) was installed, which was custom-designed using EASE modeling for coverage, and precision, with future upgrades and control options in mind. This upgrade has allowed the Theatre to continue as a quality venue for the Gawler and surrounding community.

Hewitson Theatre - STARplex is a large, multi-purpose 1200 seat capacity facility with air-conditioning, Proscenium-arch stage and dressing rooms.

As a member of the Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority (ACTA), the Australian Performing Arts Centres Association (APACA), and an associate member of the Out Of The Square program, STARplex can offer a range of conference, function, performing arts and cabaret shows to both the northern business and community sectors. With the flexible seating arrangement, a wide range of productions, functions and conferences can be accommodated. These include:

A variety of catering packages are available to suit your function needs. Pec Deck Café is onsite and can provide finger food packages and platters, with external caterers engaged for larger functions (or sit-down meals). Hewitson Theatre - STARplex is an unlicensed premise; however a limited license can be obtained, and bar provided, for your function if needed.

Each year we hold a number of functions, productions, conferences and expos such as: various local school’s presentation nights, various local community group’s awards dinners, the Northern Festival Of Music, Country Music SA’s Stampede Dinner & Awards night and Play School in concert – just to name a few.
