Inclusive Sports & Activities- Wednesday 16th January 2019
As usual, the excitement surrounding our Inclusive Event was palpable around STARplex.
Despite the heat, we had a great number of participants joining us. With many familiar faces and a few new ones, all very excited about the activities they could see set up.
After being welcomed everybody broke into groups based on their ages/abilities and siblings/friendships.
The activities we had on offer were;
We also had on offer soft play and craft corner.
We were lucky enough to have specialised coaches from Futsal, Basketball and Gymnastics to help out participants safely learn special skills in each sport. We also had the use of a space in the theatre for a quiet area for participants who feel like they need regular rest breaks.
Our fabulous Courts staff braved the sweltering heat to cook a delicious Sausage Sizzle for lunch. Everybody devoured their sausages in bread and were treated with icy Zooper Doopers to cool off after lunch.
When everybody had full stomachs, we divided into groups based on each participant’s favourite activities. Unsurprisingly, Gymnastics was a favourite and we also had a lot of interest in Basketball and Futsal, where we even managed to play a small game.
It was great to see so many participants learning new skills and trying things that they wouldn’t always feel comfortable trying. I especially enjoyed seeing a few of our participants staying back to take part in the Gymnastics Come and Try event.
Overall, the first Inclusive Event of 2019 was a success and we are looking forward to seeing our young friends at the next event!
