Alex Palmer – Bronze Coaching License (Swim)

April 17, 2015

Alex was born in Adelaide in 1993 and started competitive swimming when he was eight years old.

He raced for Elizabeth Aquatic Club for eight years winning approximately 100 state medals and 2 National Age medals.

Alex currently coaches and swims with the STARplex Swimming Club. He coaches the ‘Junior Squad’ and ‘Rising Stars Squad’ six days a week. He also trains with the ‘High Performance Squad’ five times a week.

Alex’s other interests range from Football, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Tennis and Athletics to outdoor adventure treks. He recently completed the Kokoda Trail and is now saving up to climb Mt Kilimanjaro later this year!

This new qualification (Bronze Coaching License), which is recognised throughout Australia, will enable Alex to coach swimming squads towards competitive racing. He attended a course with lectures on the mechanics of swimming, swimming drills, season preparation technique, energy systems, psychology and squad management. He then completed assignments on these lectures to qualify for the license. This qualification gives the STARplex Swim Club more recognition as a high level organisation with quality coaches. It gives Alex recognition as a respectable coach within Swimming SA and opens up the possibility of being selected to go on state team trips as a coach.

For the immediate future Alex will remain at STARplex and learn more from Steve Garner and Craig Stewart (the senior coaches at the club) to help make STARplex the most skilled and successful club in the state.
