What is involved in the Accelerated Development Camp

Fitness Testing

A thorough fitness assessment conducted by a sports scientist will provide you with individual areas of strength and weakness. An understanding of your physical strengths and weaknesses will allow you and the coaches to determine areas of focus in your training program. Coaches will be able to review results and create programs to enhance athletic development both during the camp and at home.

Agility

This is a measure of your ability to change direction at speed. In basketball, agility is a valuable attribute that makes running, turning and changing speeds a great advantage.

Vertical Jump

A test to determine your explosive power in a vertical direction.  The ability to generate power to propel you vertically will increase your jump height for rebounding, shooting and defence. Specific strength and plyometric exercises can help improve your explosive power and vertical jump height.

5, 10, 20 metre sprint

This is a pure measure of straight line speed. The ability to accelerate faster through proper mechanics and strength training will ultimately decrease this time and increase performance.

Individual Basketball Skill Sessions

You will participate in one on one and group basketball skill sessions. You will have a 30 minute individual session each day to work closely on areas that both you and your coach feel need refinement or improvement and would benefit your basketball performance.

Team/Squad Training Sessions

All squad members will participate in squad on court training sessions under the guidance of our skill / tactical coaching staff. Training sessions will be run daily with a duration varying between 60-120 minutes. All aspects of high level competition basketball will be covered.

Recovery Session

Daily recovery sessions help you recovery from the day’s activities and give you the best opportunity to train at your peak the following day.

Conditioning Sessions

Daily strength and conditioning sessions will be tailored to meet the physical requirements of basketball. Areas of focus will be explosive power (jump height, sprint speed), agility, strength and injury prevention (core stability, flexibility). Fitness test results will be analysed to help prescribe individual exercises to improve your physical performance. You will be provided with tailored conditioning programs to follow at home that progress from the exercises learnt during the camp to continue your athletic development.

Seminars

Seminars will be conducted throughout the camp on a number of areas that will help educate and motivate the aspiring athlete.

A Dietitian will conduct a seminar on sports nutrition with specific strategies for achieving peak performance for basketball.

Seminars on recovery and injury prevention will help educate you on exercises and techniques that can reduce your risk of injury.

Motivation seminars from former high level athletes or coaches will motivate you and give you a rare insight into the mindset of an elite athlete.
